Empingated Knit Top

In collaboration with world renowned artist Carlos Luna, the Empingated Knit Top brings to life Luna’s powerful artwork from his piece Empingated. The design depicts an anthropomorphic man caught in the jungle of life experiences, struggling with his mortality. As death reaches out to him, ready to transition him into the next phase, the man attempts to resist, hiding a knife behind his back in a desperate attempt to slay death and live on. The cycle of life and death is represented by the contrasting themes of “La Vida” (Life) and “La Muerte” (Death), with the inclusion of the anglicized Cuban explicative, “Pinga", hinting at the unfortunate outcome of the conflict. The design captures the complexity of existence, highlighting the inevitable and sometimes chaotic nature of life.
